Is simple living worth it?
Simple living is a trending term these days. Scroll on any social media platform and I'm sure you'll see plenty of 10 second videos with quiet, peaceful music featuring influencers living a more simple life—gardening, baking, sourdough starting, homesteading. It looks so lovely.
It seems as though many people are wanting to escape the chaos of our complicated world to a more simple life.Â
We live in a world where we have constant access to everything. Instant gratification is king. There is constant noise (aka ads and marketing) trying to convince you that you *need* all the latest and greatest things.Â
Honestly, it's hard to find a moment's peace through the hustle and bustle of it all.Â
You’d think as someone with counseling training, I’d be pretty skilled at cultivating peace when life gets stressful, that it comes easily to me. Ha! Actually, I find I have to work really really hard to carve out time for peace and quiet.Â
My personal draw to decreasing chaos and minimizing distraction in my life is strong. I'm tired of chaos and clutter, tired of capitalistic consumerism, tired of over-complicating and over-thinking everything thanks to the tiny computer (i.e. smartphone) I take with me everywhere.Â
I want life to be more simple, yes. But I want more than a simple life. Â
I just want my life to be filled with (even just a little) peace.Â
Anyone else? I’m sure I’m not alone in that.Â
When I say life, I mean every inch of life—motherhood, parenthood, marriage, friendships, homemaking, mental & physical health, spiritual wellbeing. What does it look like to bring peace into all of these areas? It’ll probably take a lifetime to truly know, but everyone has to start somewhere.
Join me as I discover ways to slow down, take some breaths, and live a more peace(filled) life. And, maybe, you can glean some inspiration for your own peace(filled) journey.Â
Or, maybe you’re just curious to see if I can succeed at simplifying my life and what mistakes I’ll make. Either way, I hope you follow along with this journey.
My dream for this space is to become a safe haven for us to encourage each other as we cultivate peace in our lives. And, for now, that space is free!
