Something about the changing of the seasons—the warmth of the spring sun, with the chill of the breeze reminding you winter’s not entirely gone yet. Trees slowly coming back to life, insects buzzing around. Birds chirping and singing new songs to usher in a new growing season.
Something about spring stirs my soul.
Where I live in the southeastern US, spring is usually a brief moment in time—it seems to flips from winter to summer pretty quickly. So I savor these rare spring days—where the mornings are still brisk, the afternoons entirely comfortable.
As we plan out our garden, we begin to take advantage of the glorious weather on the weekends, tilling the soil and planting seedlings, praying for growth.
Preparing our garden is extra special this year, as my body is growing our second child. Something about growing vegetables and flowers while growing our family makes me feel more connected to the process.
Growth is sweet and beautiful. And sometimes difficult and painful. And miraculous—so preciously miraculous.
I can’t see the specific growth, but I know growth is happening as my belly swells, as I feel little limbs moving about. I trust and pray the Lord is forming this child for his glory. I trust the process of growth.
In the garden, we are constantly learning. Learning that sometimes is no matter what you do, some things are out of your control. Learning which plants do well together, and which to separate. Learning natural barriers against pests. Learning that gardening takes discipline, it takes patience.
Learning to trust the process, and to be thankful for the harvest we receive.
As we enter this growing season, may the Lord give us the daily bread we need to tend to his kingdom.

A few spaces I’ve found peace since we spoke last…
Home: We are preparing a “big boy” room for my toddler, and, while the process of sourcing materials and putting things together is not necessarily peaceful, seeing the room come together is. He loves the baseball theme, and is almost ready to move in. I’m not sure how my heart will handle him sleeping in a big bed, but I know he’s going to love it.
Soul: My husband gifted me a bird feeder for my birthday. Watching the birds flit about is so special and peaceful. He also got me a bird field guide for where we live, so we’ve all had fun learning to identify our bird visitors. My toddler really enjoys watching the birds and being on squirrel patrol—knocking on the window and yelling “No squirrels!!” when one somehow climbs onto the feeder.
until next time,
Megan

If you’d like to further support my work, please consider buying me a coffee! Though I don’t drink actual coffee (anyone else highly sensitive to caffeine?), a solid chai tea latte or matcha can do wonders for fueling my words. Buy Me A Coffee is one way readers can support writers however they’d like to. You absolutely do not have to do this—the time you take to read these words is more than enough for me. But I’ve had a few people ask how they can further support this work, so this is my solution :)
